ASK ASHLEYHERE WE YOU WILL FIND QUESTIONS ASHLEY HAS RECEIVED DURING THE CAMPAIGN AND HIS RESPONSES TO THEM. EMAILED QUESTION FROM VOTER #1: I am a possibly interested voter in the 1st district. I strongly believe in the constitution and I am against a large federal government. I need to know where you stand on issues such as the patriot act, foreign relations, states rights and health care. Personally I think we should get our noses out of international affairs and deal with problems here. Lower taxes, reduce regulations and let the free market work. I'm definitely not for _______because all he does is blame democrats for everything and bickering over partisan politics doesn't solve anything. I want solutions, especially if they involve less federal control and more of a republic like this country was founded on. Thanks for your time, xxxxxx. ASHLEY ANSWERS #1: Thank you for your email and your consideration. In regards to your specific questions I am on the record as a staunch supporter of the US Constitution. I believe my role as your congressman is as a citizen legislator, a role our founding fathers intended. My major issue is We Need Jobs here in Eastern North Carolina. We have got to get America back to work and the citizens of Eastern North Carolina back to work. As a small businessman, I understand what taxes and regulations do. It creates an environment that is not conducive to business. We have got to get the government out of the way and let the spirit of entrepreneurship that made this country great work again. I believe in capitalism in its true form. There is risk and reward in this system. When companies fail we should not bail them out. When companies succeed we should all applaud them, not demonize them and regulate them to death. With current issues like cap and trade, health care, card check, the job creators will not take risk thus not expanding or investing. This is detrimental to our citizenry. It is imperative that we demand our members of congress to adhere to fiscal conservatism. We cannot continue down this path of $1.3 trillion a year deficits. It is not sustainable. You cannot solve a debt problem by borrowing more money. It is a simple economic principle. This country is on the verge of a complete economic collapse unless we have leaders who understand that government is not the answer but the citizenry of this country is. Lets get the government out of the way so that the American people can do our thing. Free markets make free men. In regards to health care I am opposed to nationalized health care. My beliefs and support are in the private sector. That being said I believe we do have some problems with health care cost but I know that the federal government is not capable of solving those problems. What has been done out of Washington like this that has been successful? Anytime I am asked about health care my stance is that we can solve the problem with these ways: First and foremost TORT REFORM. Second allowing the consumer to have the option to buy across state lines. Competition has made this country great and keeps companies honest. Third allowing the consumer to buy health insurance as a menu based insurance policy. This means that the insured chooses what is best for their needs and families needs and makes the decisions themselves. It has got to be done in the private sector with the American people making decisions for themselves, not the federal government. This legislation is dangerous in so many ways and I will never support a government run health care system. Not to mention how in the world are we going to pay for this. In regards to the Patriot Act there are some aspects that are beneficial. At the same time we must always guard our civil liberties. When I get to Washington one of the first things I want to do is research segments of the act that are not available to the public but will be to me when I get to Congress. You mention states rights and as a strong supporter of our constitution the tenth amendment should be adhered to. We also have got to get out of the business of unfunded mandates out of Washington on our states. In my opinion many burdens placed on our states by the federal government are unconstitutional. I am against a large national government and believe the local citizens are more qualified to govern their daily lives than bureaucrats and professional politicians in Washington. I unfortunately like you believe we do not have the luxury of time to turn this country back on the right path. The time is now if we hope to right America. It is that critical. I do not believe the Obama, Pelosi, Reed, Butterfield plan for this country will work now or ever. To right this we can work across party lines just not with those on the extreme left. I do hope that you will stay in touch and when I am in your area we can visit. Thank you for your interest in my campaign. Together we can Restore America!!! Thanks, Ashley Woolard EMAILED FROM QUESTION FROM VOTER #2: If you need any help in the Roxobel area of district 1, I will be happy to offer support. It has been my experience that when elected representatives cross the beltway, they seem to lose touch with their constituents. Say it isn't so! XXXXX ASHLEY ANSWERS #2: When I go to Washington it will be as a citizen legislator. I will be back in the district most weekends when the House is not in session. I will be spending time with my family (who will not be moving to Washington) and going around the district to talk to the people who I represent. I'm a strong family man and have no interest in the Washington social circle. I appreciate your offer of help. Of course all campaigns run on money the way a car runs on gas. If you go to my website www.woolardforcongress.com you will be able to pay by credit card through Pay Pal or you can mail a check to Woolard for Congress PO Box 1116 Washington, NC 27889. Also if you can identify a friend or neighbor, or even yourself, who is willing to host a "Meet and Greet" in their home for 15 to 50 people who would like to meet and visit with me it would be greatly appreciated The information on my website will give material for you to share with your friends, coworkers, church members and family about my candidacy and the things for which I stand. . As the campaign progresses there will be yard signs to put out, and during the actual voting period we will need people at each polling place passing out literature. I met Ashley a few weeks ago and sure hope he can unseat Mr. Butterfield. Thanks, XXXXX ASHLEY ANSWERS #3: Thanks for your interest in my campaign. You have asked easy questions. I AM: Strongly pro life Opposed to gay marriage A strong defender of the 2nd Amendment A fiscal conservative, lower taxes, less government, less regulation of small businesses. For drilling of NC coast for oil and gas. Strongly opposed to Cap and Trade Strongly opposed to Card Check Strongly opposed to government run health care If you have any other questions please feel free to call me at 252-944-5377. Ashley EMAILED QUESTION FROM VOTER #4: Dear Mr. Woolard, I have been invited by a friend, to attend a meeting with you in Elizabeth City on January 16, 2010 and to bring others with me. I look forward to meeting you and to hearing what you have to say. A visit to your website indicates that your major started concern is the jobless situation in the 1st Congressional District. This is certainly a problem which must be addressed but many of us are more concerned about much more basic issues at this time. Basic concerns include: • Expansion of Federal Government and the resultant ever increasing control over our lives. • Run away Federal and State spending and the resultant unsustainable debt load. • The financial debacle existing in major Federal programs such as: Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, the U.S Post Office, Amtrak, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs etc. • The amorality and corruption of a huge majority of our elected “representatives” regardless of political party. • Pork. The perception of many elected to congress that their primary purpose is to go to DC and bring back as many tax dollars as possible. Why send the tax dollars to DC in the first place. • The total disregard for our Constitution and the wisdom of our Founding Fathers I will fully support and work for you if you pledge: • That you will become truly knowledgeable in the U.S. Constitution and the intent of the Founding Fathers and defend that Constitution as amended and the Judeo/Christian principals upon which this great nation was established. • That you will support the Sovereignty of the individual states and a limited Federal Government and work toward a long-term and continuing reduction in the size and scope of the Federal Government, the Federal Budget and the Federal debt. • That you will support our system of Capitalism and Free Enterprise recognizing that only the private sector can create wealth and therefore jobs. • That you will value the best interests of your electorate above self and party. • That you will not sell your vote for any reason. • That you will not initiate nor support “pork” legislation. • That you will not support any new “entitlements” and will work to bring fiscal solvency to or eliminate existing Federal Entitlement programs. • That you will be a strong and aggressive defender of the U.S.of A. Sincerely, XXXX ASHLEY’S RESPONSE #4: Dear Mr. XXXXXX, I look forward to meeting you and your associates on the 16th. Our website is still in development. The theme of Jobs, Jobs, Jobs is meant to resonate with working Republicans and Democrats without whose support we cannot hope to win this election. Your "Basic concerns" echo mine completely, without a shadow of an exception. All those concerns will be developed as the campaign progresses. I will take your pledge right and now. • I will become truly knowledgeable in the U.S. Constitution and the intent of the Founding Fathers and defend that Constitution as amended and the Judeo/Christian principals upon which this great nation was established. • I will support the Sovereignty of the individual states and a limited Federal Government and work toward a long-term and continuing reduction in the size and scope of the Federal Government, the Federal Budget and the Federal debt. • I will support our system of Capitalism and Free Enterprise recognizing that only the private sector can create wealth and therefore jobs. • I will value the best interests of my electorate above self and party. • I will not sell my vote for any reason. • I will not initiate nor support “pork” legislation. • I will not support any new “entitlements” and will work to bring fiscal solvency to or eliminate existing Federal Entitlement programs. • I will be a strong and aggressive defender of the U.S.A. And I will add So help me God. Mr. XXXXX I'm going to need all the help I can get. You know what a steep hill I have to climb. I'm a small businessman with a growing family. I cannot personally underwrite my campaign as some candidates can. My opponent has a war chest of more than $200,000, the vast majority of which was raised outside North Carolina from labor unions and left wing PACs. I have no access to those kinds of resources at this time. Ashley Woolard Candidate For Congress NC First District EMAILED FROM VOTER #5 Ashley, I am a Beaufort County Native (Bath) and I've been living in Wayne County for the past 6 years. I am a member of the Republican Party here and though not active, I need to be. If I can be of any assistance with your campaign here please let me know. I may not know the answers but can usually find someone that does. From what I have observed, as in Beaufort County, a good portion of the "movers and shakers" here in Goldsboro are registered Democrats but with very conservative political and fiscal values. Let me know how I can help. I Took it upon myself yesterday to send out 80 facebook invites to your Facebook page and about that many in my address book with a link to your website. Let me know. XXXX ASHLEY’S RESPONSE #5 Thank you so much for your email. I certainly appreciate your willingness to help. Wayne County will be a big part of winning this seat and getting Mr. Buttefield out of Washington. Over the next few months we will be getting down to visit the fine folks of Wayne County quite a bit. We will need all the help we can get there. On the Facebook page thank you for doing that. We need to spread the word to as many people as we can. We should have the website up and running real soon. Please keep in touch.
