WE NEED JOBSThe theme of "WE NEED JOBS" has been a constant refrain for Ashley since he began his campaign in October and has become his signature opening as he makes appearances around the District. With true unemployment escalating past 16% in recent months, many of our friends and neighbors that want to work and be productive members of society can't because there are no jobs to be had. Meanwhile G.K. Butterfield travels to Copenhagen with Nancy Pelosi -- a modern day Nero fiddling while our district burns. Butterfield dines on caviar while our people starve. When folks meet Ashley for the first time, at the courthouse in Elizabeth City, an historic home in Edenton, or just off the circle in downtown Goldsboro, they are struck by his youth, enthusiasm and energy. As he looks new friends straight in the eye, he will often remark, "Free markets make free men (and women, of course)" And yes, they do. We don't have jobs because professional politicians like G.K. Butterfield need ever increasing tax revenues to fund the socialistic agendas that keep them in office. While Ashley raises his money from individuals, Butterfield survives on special interest PAC monies generated by insider-driven regulations that take money out of the tills of small businesses (fees, licenses, privilege taxes etc) thus making them less competitive with the giants that make the contributions. It is an endless circle. The problem is small business creates the majority of jobs which employ regular folks. Ashley understands this because he is a small businessman having worked in his second generation family insurance business since graduating East Carolina University. Unlike professional politician-for-life G.K. Butterfield, Ashley works for a living and has seen what ever increasing taxes and regulation does to small business. That is why he vows on the campaign trail that, once elected, he will run through brick walls to reduce taxes and regulation on small business. Meanwhile Ashley has taken no PAC money -- Butterfield thrives on it. The economic downward spiral is accelerating and Butterfield's answer is to breeze through the District handing out grants -- "Free money" -- to those that support him. Of course all this "free money" comes out of your pocket -- is laundered through the government structures -- and then finds its way into the pockets of his supporters. What a racket. The guy before Congressman Butterfield -- Frank Ballance -- went to federal prison for stealing taxpayer's money. Now the process is merely a little more elegant, a little more sophisticated. And of course more people are out of work as the government elites loot the country and we face another Great Depression. Think about this the next time you hear one of your neighbors has lost their job. More importantly, remember this when it comes time to vote in November. WE NEED JOBS -- Butterfield is not delivering for the people. |
