OPEN LETTER TO GK BUTTERFIELDSeptember 7, 2010 Honorable George Kenneth Butterfield 413 Cannon House Office Building Washington, DC 20515 Sir, This is Ashley Woolard writing. I urge you to resign from the U.S. House of Representatives for the good of the citizens of eastern North Carolina. I was disappointed to read last week in the Wall Street Journal you had admitted taking per diem cash advances for travel from government officials for “expenses” and then pocketed monies not spent - instead of returning these funds to the treasury. Combined with your acceptance of what I believe to be political bribes, in the form of campaign contributions, from troubled New York Congressman Charlie Rangel - who you are to judge in the upcoming Ethics hearing on his criminal misdeeds, this latest action continues a pattern of corruption in your position going back to the days of convicted felon Frank Ballance. Now we understand why you will not return these contributions despite my call and papers like the Elizabeth City Daily Advance demanding you do so. You must retain this position of power and influence to ensure you do not meet the same fate as former Congressman Ballance, who was convicted of mail fraud and money laundering of tax payers money. The people of eastern North Carolina starve during this government-facilitated economic collapse. That you should pocket unspent government travel money is outrageous. Tell me Sir, did you list these monies as income on your tax returns? And once more I call on the Justice Department to launch a formal investigation of your misdeeds. Have you no shame? Sincerely, Ashley Woolard Republican Congressional Candidate NC First District |
